Job Description

Education To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: • Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation; • Be computer literate in standard software applications; • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Work Experience Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Responsibilities - Assist in drafting and preparing background documents, reports, issue briefs, talking points, articles, presentations etc
  2. - Attend and summarize conferences and meetings
  3. - Support organization of meetings and conferences, side events to strengthen strategic engagement with UN system partners
  4. - Assist in data collection of disaster risk reduction practices
  5. - Conduct research and provide analysis on relevant disaster risk reduction and sustainable development issues
  6. - Support research on risk knowledge and analysis on DRR-related topics
  7. - Assist in maintaining databases
  8. - Support the review of key publications
  9. - Support the work on Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction, Sendai Framework Monitoring, Words into Action, Making Cities Resilient, International Day for Disaster Reduction, World Tsunami Awareness Day etc
  10. - Assist in preparing training and learning events and other capacity building initiatives for Disaster Risk Reduction
